Texas Tech Football Underrated?

LUBBOCK, Texas - Overachieving? Underrated? No Respect? Those seem to be the buzzwords that surround Texas Tech football since Spike Dykes took over the program in 1987.
One of the few ways to measure the success of the Texas Tech football program is to compare the preseason media polls to the actual conference finishes. Since 1987, the Red Raiders have equaled or surpassed their expected finish every year. In addition, Texas Tech has finished no lower than second-place in its conference or division for the last seven seasons!
This season Texas Football Magazine has selected Texas Tech to finish in fourth-place in the Big 12 Conference's South Division. Considered by many to be the bible of the sport in the state of Texas, Texas Football has selected the Red Raiders to finish no higher than third only twice in the last 12 seasons. During that 12-year period, Texas Tech finished no lower than third only twice.
The 1998 media poll will be released by the Big 12 Conference office in late July and the conference race will end with the Big 12 Championship game in early December.
