Lubbock, Texas (AP)--As the games get tougher, Texas Tech looks to extend its 13-game winning streak Wednesday when it visits Big 12 Conference rival Texas A&M.
The No. 6 Lady Raiders (14-1, 3-0 Big 12) had mostly been rolling over teams since their only loss, to Old Dominion on Nov. 21. But in two of their last three games, they have needed to rally before pulling out victories over conference foes.
In the most recent game, Texas Tech erased a 13-point deficit with 7:25 remaining and went on to a 73-60 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. Keitha Dickerson sparked the comeback by scoring 14 of her career-high 21 points in the second half.
"I've know all along Big 12 play wasn't going to be easy," Texas Tech coach Marsha Sharp said following the game. "I didn't know it was going to be like this every night. The defense created the win for us in the second half."
Nevertheless, Texas Tech has won 16 straight games over Big 12 teams, including three Big 12 Tournament wins.
Angie Braziel continues to lead the Lady Raiders in scoring with 19.7 points per game. Rene Hanebutt adds 13.8, while Dickerson is also now in double figures at 10.8 ppg.
Texas A&M (6-7, 1-2) gave rookie coach Peggie Gillom her first Big 12 win with a 61-57 victory at Oklahoma State last Wednesday. The Aggies have a star in Prissy Sharpe, who leads the Big 12 in scoring and rebounding with 20.2 points and 10.7 boards per game. But the rest of the team has not stepped up, as Texas A&M is last in the Big 12 in scoring, averaging just 65.8 points.
This rivalry has been very one-sided, with Texas Tech leading, 36-9. The Aggies have not beaten the Lady Raiders since the finals of the last Southwest Conference Tournament on March 9, 1996.
