After needing overtime to beat Baylor earlier this season, Texas Tech - which has won 33 straight games over the Bears - hopes to have an easier time when it hosts the rematch Saturday.
The 10th-ranked Lady Raiders (18-2, 7-1 Big 12) needed a 17-foot jumper by Keitha Dickerson as time expired to defeat the Bears, 51-49, on Jan. 2 in their conference opener.
Texas Tech has had a number of close games since, including an 89-87 victory over Oklahoma on Wednesday. Angie Braziel had 30 points and eight rebounds, helping the Lady Raiders overcome a 12-point halftime deficit.
Coach Marsha Sharp expects another tough Big 12 contest Saturday, although her team has dominated the rivalry in recent years.
"We have to play a team that you beat at the buzzer in Waco, so nothing ever gets any easier in the Big 12. You just go from one challenge to the next and deal with them. We're looking for some people to really step up this week and make some big plays for us."
Baylor (11-8, 3-4) used good defense to stay close with Texas Tech in that first meeting and used it once again to beat Missouri on Wednesday. The Bears forced the Tigers into 31 turnovers and shut them down in the second half for a 78-54 victory.
"We made a few offensive adjustments but sometimes our defense is our best offense," coach Sonja Hogg said.
Lara Webb scored 21 points Wednesday and averages 17.2 per game to lead the Bears, who are 0-3 on the road in conference games. Kacy Moffitt and Toya Ellis add 14.7 and 14.3 points per game, respectively.
Texas Tech is 35-1 against Baylor under Sharp.
