Championship: #2 Texas Tech vs. #1 Rice; 2:00 p.m. (6:00p.m. if necessary)
- Rice set four NCAA tournament records including hits in a game (33), player at bats (8), individual runs scored (5) and individual hits in a game (6). All three individual records were set by Will Ford.
- With the win, Rice will face Texas Tech in the championship game at 2:00 p.m.. If Tech wins, the Red Raiders will advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. If Rice wins, that will force a second champion- ship game to be played at 6:00 p.m. with the winner advancing.
Quoting Rice:
Head Coach Wayne Graham "It was critical to come out tonight and save our pitching. Kenny (Baugh) could probably pitch six to seven innings tomorrow but we wont use him until the second game if necessary. We havent been hitting very well but I thought we took good swings tonight and made good contact."
Centerfielder Jason Gray
"It was nice to win big but it doesnt mean much. We saved our pitching early and gained confidence. We wanted to win badly and we came out relaxed and knew what we had to do. We made the proper adjustments."
Rightfielder Will Ford
"Tonights game was a little more personal. We were determined to come out and do what it took to win."
Quoting UW-Milwaukee:
Head Coach Jerry Augustine
"What can you say? They swung the bats well and we didnt pitch well. This was a great experience being our first opportunity to play in the NCAAs. Five years ago, Scott (assistant coach) and I were just trying to get Big 10 teams on our schedule and now we have worked our way up to the NCAA tournament. We had a lot of fun and it was a thrill beating the number one team in the nation yesterday."
