Texas Tech Sweeps UT-Pan American

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech used a six-hit combined pitching performance from Brad Ralston and Brandon Roberson, a six-run fifth inning and a Miles Durham grand slam to complete a weekend sweep of UT-Pan American with a 16-2 Sunday victory. The victory improves Texas Tech's home win streak to 22 straight games and gives No. 13 Texas Tech a 23-5 overall record while UT-Pan American drops to 21-12.
Texas Tech starter Brad Ralston (6-0) earned the win after pitching 5 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits and two runs (two earned), walked one and struck out eight batters. Brandon Roberson pitched the final 3 1/3 innings for the save. Roberson entered the game and struck out his first three batters faced. He finished with five strikeouts
UT-Pan America got on the board first with a solo home run from Steve Garza, his first on the season. But Tech rallied back with a run in the third on Marco Cunningham's sacrifice fly ball.
Tech then took the lead for good in the fifth inning. The Red Raiders poured it on with five runs as UT-Pan American went through three pitchers. Scott Holzhauer began the inning with a single, David O'Keeffe followed with a single and both advanced on a Lance Woodcock sacrifice bunt. That set the table for a Jason Huth two-RBI double. Huth eventually scored on an error, Ryan Ruiz singled on a bunt, advanced to second on the error and advanced to third on a passed ball. Jon Weber drove Ruiz home with a triple and Josh Bard drove Weber home with a double to put Tech up 7-1.
Texas Tech put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning highlighted by a grand slam from Miles Durham. It was Durham's fifth home run on the season.
Scott Green took the loss for UT-Pan American after going the first 5.0 innings and allowing eight hits and seven runs (seven earned).
Durham led Texas Tech at the plate with a 1-2, four RBI, two run and grand slam performance. Huth finished 2-3 with two RBI and a run, Lance Woodcock went 2-3 with three runs, Weber finished 1-3 with two runs and two RBI, Josh Bard went 2-4 with an RBI and Marco Cunningham went 1-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Texas Tech is next in action on Tuesday at home against West Texas A&M. The game begins at 7 p.m.
