Thompson Named to Kodak All-America team

LUBBOCK, Texas Texas - Tech Lady Raider Alicia Thompson was one of ten collegiate women basketball players named to the 1998 Kodak Division I All-America team. The team was announced today in a press conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Kansas City, Mo.
Thompson, a senior forward from Big Lake, Texas, led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 23.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season. She finished her career at Texas Tech as the schools second leading scorer with 2,156 points. Prior to the Kodak team, Thompson was selected to the Associated Press, United States Basketball Writers and the Womens Basketball Journal All-America first teams. Thompson was also named the Big 12 Player of the Year and the Big 12 Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The Kodak team is the oldest and most prestigious of the womens honor squads. It is selected annually by Division I members of the Womens Basketball Coaches Association. The team members are selected by criteria that include present year statistics, impact on team, team success, sportsmanship, attitude and academic eligibility.
Thompson is the second Lady Raider to be named to the Division I team. Sheryl Swoopes was selected in 1993. Former Lady Raiders Carolyn Thompson, Connie Robinson, and Michi Atkins all received Kodak Honorable Mention accolades during their careers.
