Track and Field Concludes Competition at Angelo Relays

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up a day of competition late Thursday at the 27th Annual Angelo State Relays in San Angelo, Texas. The Red Raider women returned with a 4th place finish, while the men ended in 6th at the ASU Multipurpose Sports Complex. Abilene Christian ran home with the women's title and a second place men's finish, while meet hosts Angelo State flip-flopped, claiming the men's title and finishing second in women's competition.
Freshman Ngozi Iwu took one of two individual titles for the Red Raiders. Iwu clocked a time of 55.00 seconds in the 400 meters for first place. Dawn Charlier returns with the other top performance, recording a time of 2:12.60 in the 800 meters. Other highlights on the women's side include Tami Zachery, finishing third in both the 100 and 200, Ami Peter's second place mark in the 100 hurdles, and Tara Hangge placing second in the 5,000.
Dion Miller continued to lead the men's sprints category for Texas Tech. Miller's time of 21.15 in the 200 earned him first place in the event. He also finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 10.51.
The Red Raiders will move back into action next Friday in the annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., running April 17-19.
