Track concludes competition at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Members of the Texas Tech University track team wrapped up the third and final day of competition at the 1998 Penn Relay Carnival Saturday in Philadelphia on the Franklin Field track. Junior Evette Turner crossed the line in first place in the College Women's 3,000 meters, with a time of nine minutes, 45.37 seconds at the Univ. of Pennsylvania event. Turner, who ran the 3,000 on Thursday evening, added the fourth leg of the college women's distance medley relay. Joined by Dawn Charlier, Kaneshia Polk and Ngozi Iwu, the unit clocked a time of 11:34.37 for 12th place overall. The Texas Tech men had two relay units in competition. In the college men's 4x200 relay, the squad finished first in their heat and with the 10th best time overall. Dion Miller, Shameron Turner, Desmond Johnson and Josephus Howard topped Mount St. Mary's and Memphis in the heat, clocking a time of 1:24.73 in an event won by TCU. The quad also combined for a time of 40.23 in the college men's 4x100.
Texas Tech will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. next weekend for the Air Force Triangular on Saturday, May 2. The squad is expected to be back and full strength for the meet.
