Track to Compete in Angelo Relays

LUBBOCK, Texas--The Texas Tech men's and women's track and field teams will travel to San Angelo, Texas for the annual Angelo Relays. Hosted by Angelo State University, the bulk of the meet will run all day on Thursday. The Tech squad will be joined in competition by Angelo State, Abilene Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Commerce, Wayland Baptist, and Howard Payne.
The meet will be the second relay event of the month for the Red Raiders. The entire squad will be competing in the Angelo Relays rather than splitting up, as listed on the original schedule.
Evette Turner, Michael Njenga place second at Texas Relays Distance events proved to be the strong point for Texas Tech at the 71st Annual Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Junior Evette Turner posted a second place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:27.28, while junior Michael Njenga earned second in the men,s 5,000 in 14:13.82 and provisionally qualified for nationals. Turner was less than one second off of first place Lindsay Jones of BYU and Njenga was just a few hundredth,s of a second behind Oklahoma,s Jason Larabee.
Also highlighting the meet for Tech was the women,s distance medley relay, placing third with a time of 11:40.46. The men,s 4x100 relay clocked the best time of the season, rounding the track in 40.53 ^ just 0.53 seconds off of a provisional qualifying mark.
The meet was dominated by the event hosts, Univ. of Texas, as the Most Outstanding Female Performer, Male Performer and Team were swept by the Longhorns. Angie Vaughn was named top female, Jacob Davis earned top male, and the Texas women captured the team award.
