STANFORD, Calif. - Angie Braziel scored 17 points to lead six Texas Tech players in double figures and the Lady Raiders beat Stanford 75-69 Friday night.
Keitha Dickerson and Rene Hanebutt had 13 points apiece, Julie Lake added 12 and Melinda Schmucker and Aleah Johnson each had 10 for Texas Tech (3-1), which beat the Cardinal (1-4) for just the third time in nine meetings.
Stanford, coming off an upset last Sunday of then top-ranked Purdue, was unable to sustain its momentum.
Milena Flores led the Cardinal with 20 points and Lindsey Yamasaki had 19 but Stanford couldn't recover from a horrible first half, when it shot just 19 percent from the field, including 0-for-9 from 3-point range.
The Cardinal tried to make a game of it in the second half.
Stanford closed to 34-23 on Yamasaki's putback but the Lady Raiders reasserted themselves by scoring the next nine points, starting with a 3-pointer by Schmucker.
Stanford fought back, pulling to 52-43 on a three-point play by Yamasaki. But Texas Tech kept fending the Cardinal off as Dickerson scored nine second-half points and Lake converted a key three-point play with 4:56 left, putting the Lady Raiders up 62-48.
The Cardinal mounted one more rally, pulling to 68-63 when Yamasaki made a 3-pointer with 51 seconds remaining but Stanford then had to start fouling and the Lady Raiders made seven of eight free throws down the stretch. That was enough to offset a 3-pointer and a three-point play by Flores in the final 18 seconds.
Stanford trailed 31-18 at halftime, missing 26 of their first 32 shots and failing to score during a nearly five-minute stretch.
The Lady Raiders weren't shooting much better than Stanford but, with the Cardinal ice cold, went on an 10-0 run to pull in front 23-10.
Lake connected from 3-point range to start the flurry that was capped by Dickerson's three-point play.
