Women's Basketball Earns Top Seed in Midwest Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 tournament and regular-season champion Texas Tech Lady Raiders were rewarded with a first-ever No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional and will play host Friday and Sunday for First and Second Round action in the 1998 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
Texas Tech (25-4), which won its first Big 12 Conference Tournament title Saturday with a 71-53 win over Kansas, will face Grambling (23-6) in Friday night's second game. Southwest Missouri State (24-5) will battle Notre Dame (20-9) at 6:00 p.m. CT in the first-round opener in the 8,174-seat Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
The two winners will advance to Sunday's Second Round matchup at 7:00 p.m.
The Lady Raiders, who were 15-1 in Big 12 regular-season action, are led by Big 12 Player of the Year and All-America candidate Alicia Thompson. The senior averages 22.9 points and 8.8 rebounds.
Texas Tech University will also play host to the Midwest Regional March 21st and 23rd.
