Lady Raider Head Coach Marsha Sharp
One of the most respected and well-known coaches in Texas Tech history,
head coach Marsha Sharp is 395-128 (.755) in her 17th year at the helm
of
the Lady Raiders. The 1998 Big 12 Coach of the Year, she has led the
Lady
Raiders to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven consecutive and five
NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in six years, including the NCAA National
Championship in 1993. While in the SWC, Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders
never finished below third, they won or shared the last five
championships,
and they captured three Post Season Classic titles. Sharp captured her
350th career victory during the 1997 NCAA Tournament when on March 16
Tech
defeated Montana, 47-45, in Palo Alto, Calif.
A 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Sharp was named National
Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. She also reaped SWC Coach of the
Year
honors seven times, five consecutively. Sharp needs five victories to
eclipse the 400 career-win mark.

Wrap-Up of the TTU-Texas Game
As her teammates went 2-of-14 from 3-point range, junior guard
Edwina Brown scored 23 points on slashing drives to the basket and
handed
out 10 assists to lead the Longhorns to a 74-70 upset of the Lady
Raiders
Saturday night. Brown was 10-of-14 from the field and Texas (12-9, 6-5
Big
12) shot 51 percent.
Brown's ball handling and scoring drives pulled Tech's defense off Texas' two freshman starters, forward Tracy Cook and center Rashunda Johnson. Cook and Johnson combined for 27 points and 12 rebounds. Brown scored eight points in a 10-2 run at the end of the first half that sparked the Longhorns to a 33-25 lead they would extend to 48-35 in the second.
Tech (19-3, 8-2) rallied late and cut the lead to 62-59 on a 3-pointer by Rene Hanebutt with 3:46 left before Texas stretched its lead back to 66-59 on consecutive baskets by Johnson. Tech again was able to cut the lead to 68-65 on a short jumper by Angie Braziel with 1:28 left before Texas sealed the game by making six of eight free throws over the final 70 seconds, including two by Brown.
Tech had one last opportunity when Melinda Schmucker hit a 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds left to pull within 73-70. Tech was forced to foul Cook on the ensuing inbounds pass and she made one of two foul shots for the final margin.
Cook also grabbed eight rebounds and Dana Godfrey scored 10 points for Texas in front of 10,659 at the Frank Erwin Center, the largest crowd to watch a Big 12 Conference game this season.
Braziel led Tech with 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting but was held to four rebounds, half her average. Texas outrebounded Tech 38-34 and held a decisive 22-11 advantage at halftime.

.Senior post Angie Braziel paced the Lady Raiders with 29
points,
17 rebounds and three blocks to help Tech to a 68-65 win over Texas A&M
on

in
the final seconds of the game that insured Tech's victory.

Head coach Marsha Sharp needs five victories to eclipse the 400-career win mark. During her previous 16 years as head coach at Tech, Sharp has averaged 23.5 wins per season.
All three of Techs losses this season have come on Saturdays.
The Lady Raiders have won 110 of their last 117 games at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum for a winning percentage of .940. The Lady Raiders have accumulated a 183-29 record under head coach Marsha Sharp and a 114-10 record in the last eight seasons in the Coliseum.
As a team, Texas Tech has been outrebounded by its opponents in four straight games. The Lady Raiders have averaged 33.8 rebounds in their last four games compared to their opponents 41.3 rebounds per game. The gap hasnt been as obvious on the offensive end of the boards (TTU 49 vs. Opp. 54), but on the defensive boards. Tech has been outrebounded, 111-86, on the defensive boards. Its also been six games since a Lady Raider has collected double-figure rebounding numbers.
Senior post Cara Gibbs has averaged nine points per game over the last two games in 26 total minutes of play.
Sophomore guard Katrisa ONeal surpassed her season steal total of last year (71) with four steals against Texas. The Plainview, Texas, native comes into Wednesdays game with 74 season steals and 145 career steals - good for ninth on Techs all-time career list for steals. She needs two more steals to move into eighth place.
Saturdays crowd of 10,659 at the Frank Erwin Center was the largest crowd the Lady Raiders have played in front of since Feb. 22, 1997 as Texas defeated Texas Tech, 72-61, in front of 10,645 fans at the Frank Erwin Center.
