Women's Basketball Team to Appear at Raider Alley

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference champion Lady Raiders women's basketball team will be among several of Texas Tech's sports squads that will appear at Raider Alley Saturday, April 4 following the football team's annual Red-Black Game.
Led by consensus All-America Alicia Thompson, the Lady Raiders posted a 26-5 overall record and were an impressive 15-1 in conference games during the 1997-98 season. The Big 12 Player of the Year, Thompson was named first-team All-America on virtually every team, including the Associated Press and Kodak. She led the league in scoring with a 23.2 points per game average.
Saturday's activities, which has billed as FootballFest '98 sponsored by Texas Tech Medical Center, will begin with the annual Red-Black spring football game at 10 a.m. in Jones Stadium. The game will feature appearances by the Masked Rider, Raider Red, the Gunfire Kickline and members of the Goin' Band from Raiderland. The game will also feature English (KKAM 1340 AM) and Spanish (KTXQ 93.7 FM & 950 AM) radio broadcasts.
Following the game, Raider Alley will feature musical entertainment, food, games and an autograph session with Red Raider student-athletes. Members of the Texas Tech soccer, volleyball and baseball teams will join the Lady Raiders at Raider Alley.
Following Raider Alley, the nationally-ranked Texas Tech baseball team plays an important Big 12 contest against Missouri at 2 p.m. at Dan Law Field. The nationally-ranked softball squad opens its home Big 12 schedule with a doubleheader against Oklahoma State at 12:30 at Berl Huffman Athletic Complex.
