LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer program conducted its annual season banquet Saturday, April 25 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Three major team honors were awarded including the team's Most Valuable Player, Fighting Heart Award and the Highest GPA Award.
Junior Amy Rutstein (Spring, Texas/Klein H.S.) received the Red Raiders' Most Valuable Player. The 5-4 forward scored 13 goals, added two assists and finished with 28 points on the season. She led the Red Raiders in both goals and points scored. More importantly, Rutstein scored five game-winning goals for Texas Tech.
Senior Jennifer Benat (Richardson, Texas/Berkner H.S.) was honored with both the Highest GPA Award and the Fighting Heart Award. Benat, a 5-4 forward, finished the season with one goal, one assist and three points. She earned the Highest GPA Award for a 4.0 GPA during the fall 1998 semester and took home the Fighting Heart Award for her drive, desire and hustle on the field.
Texas Tech finished the season with a 7-7-3 and 3-5-2 Big 12 record.
