Women's Tennis Completes Play at Cougar Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis players Amanda Earhart (Nashville, Tenn.), Alenka Ovin (Maribor, Slovenia) and Ghislaine Hernandez (Mexico) completed singles and doubles play at the Cougar Classic today.
Hernandez and Ovin led Texas Tech in singles play. Both picked up wins in consolation play. Hernandez defeated Kathryn Olsen of Northwestern State in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. For Hernandez, it was her first win in her collegiate career. She finished with a 1-3 record in the tournament. Ovin beat Karin Andersson of Baylor in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. She finished with a 2-2 record for the Classic.
Earhart lost to Katja Kovac of Baylor 6-3, 6-2. She was 1-3 in tournament play.
The doubles team of Ovin and Hernandez won their consolation match against Mimi Lozano and Laura McCarty of Texas-San Antonio 8-4. The duo finished with a 1-1 mark for the tournament.
The Red Raiders will next travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to play in the Lady Seminole Classic on October 30 through November 1 at the Scott Spiecher Tennis Center on the Florida State Campus.
