LUBBOCK, Texas – After going a perfect, 4-0 last week in singles and doubles, senior Yekaterina Dmitrichenko picked up her third career weekly conference honor as she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Her first Big 12 Player of the Week award this year, Dmitrichenko helped the Lady Raiders close out the regular season with two wins as Tech defeated No. 20-ranked TCU, 4-3, and No. 34-ranked Baylor, 4-1, to solidify a spot at the Big 12 Tournament.
Against the Horned Frogs, the No. 77 pairing of Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy paired up at court one to overtake the TCU duo of Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai, 6-1, to help win a much-needed doubles point. Dmitrichenko finished her singles match in quick and dominant fashion on court two as she defeated Cristina Ramos Sierra, 6-3, 6-0, to make the match 2-0 in Tech's favor.
Against the Bears, Dmitrichenko and Murphy were once again victorious as they posted a bagel (6-0) over the tandem of Gabrielle Villegas and Zuzanna Kubacha at the top court to help claim the doubles point. Dmitrichenko would clinch the match over No. 114-ranked Kubacha at court two singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, to give the Lady Raiders a 4-1 victory over Baylor. This marked Dmitrichenko's second ranked singles win of the season.
In addition to going undefeated last week, Dmitrichenko is now the sole program record holder of doubles wins at court one with 22. She leads the team not only in overall doubles wins (31), but also in dual doubles wins (22) as she holds a 22-3 record at court one. In dual singles, she is second on the team with nine wins, seven of those coming at court two.
Tech is set to play in the Big 12 Tournament tomorrow against Houston at 9 a.m. CT in Orlando, Fla.
