Texas Tech Ranked in Preseason Top 20

In the final preseason poll before the start of the season, the Texas Tech baseball team was ranked 20th by Baseball Weekly/ESPN. Earlier, the Red Raiders were picked 18th by Collegiate Baseball.
The Baseball Weekly/ESPN poll is voted on by 42 Division I head coaches, representing members of the American Baseball Coaches Association in all areas of the United States. The Big 12 was represented by five teams in the top 25 with Baylor ranked the highest at 14th. The Bears were followed by Texas (17th), Texas A&M (19th), Texas Tech (20th) and Oklahoma State (25th).
Head Coach Larry Hays looks for his 1,200th career win as Tech opens the 2000 season on Friday at UT-Pan American. The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday starting at noon.
All of the action can heard on KXTQ-950 AM beginning at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Sam Stephens will handle the play-by-play duties in 2000. The Red Raiders can also be heard live on the internet at www.texastech.com. Texas Tech opens the home portion of the schedule on Friday, February 4, when New Mexico State comes to Dan Law Field for three games.
