The Texas Tech baseball team will open up the 2000 campaign on Tuesday at Dan Law Field when they host West Texas A&M. The Red Raiders will play the Buffaloes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two games were scheduled after Tech's season-opening series at UT-Pan American was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Red Raiders were scheduled to play in Edinburg, but the team was unable to leave Lubbock after an ice storm Thursday morning. Tech's original home opener was scheduled for Friday, February 4, against New Mexico State, but with the change of schedule, the Red Raiders will host West Texas A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The UT-Pan American series has been rescheduled to March 13-14. The Red Raiders and Broncs will play a 4:00 p.m. game on Monday, March 13, and a 2:00 p.m. start is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14. Both games will be played in Edinburg following the Texas A&M series in College Station on March 10-12.
Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays will look to win his 1,200th career game on Tuesday at Dan Law Field. Hays will be just the ninth coach in NCAA Division I baseball history to reach the 1,200-victory plateau. In 29 seasons as a head coach, he has compiled a 1,199-640-2 to rank fourth in victories among active coaches.
