The Series
Texas Tech leads the series 15-9-3. Oklahoma State snapped Tech's four-game series win streak last season with a 41-21 win in Stillwater. The Red Raiders lead 7-2-2 in Lubbock. The Red Raiders hold the longest win streak in the series at five games (1935-1941, 1946-1956). Tech is 3-1 since the inception of the Big 12 and also is 3-1 in the last 10 years. The Last Game - (20) Texas 29, Texas Tech 17
Texas Tech and Texas played before a national television audience on the FOX Sports Network for the fourth-straight season. The game was originally scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m., but was moved to 6 p.m. to accommodate the television broadcast. The game was the fifth-straight night game in the series.
Representatives from the Sanford Independence Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl Committee, the galleryfurniture.com Bowl and the Sylvania Alamo Bowl were in attendance.
The crowd of 53,027 marked the first sellout of the season at Jones SBC Stadium. The crowd was the sixth-largest in school history. The attendance total also gives Texas Tech a single-season attendance record of 293,013, which surpasses the old record of 291,046 set during the 1980 season.
Texas was the second team this season to score against Texas Tech on its opening drive. Texas A&M scored on its opening drive against the Red Raiders on Sept. 30.
True freshman Wes Welker tallied a career-high 43-yard reception in the first quarter. Welker's previous high was a 37-yard reception against Baylor.
Redshirt freshman Carlos Francis caught his second-career touchdown pass on a 39-yard strike from Kliff Kingsbury with 7:35 remaining in the second quarter. The touchdown catch was his first since he amassed a Tech freshman record 234 receiving yards and a touchdown against Utah State on Sept. 2.
Senior defensive end Devin Lemons picked up his first-career fumble recovery in the second quarter after Aaron Hunt hit Texas QB Major Applewhite to force the turnover.
Senior linebacker John Norman recorded his seventh-career interception and third of the season when he picked off Applewhite early in the third quarter.
Kingsbury finished the game nine yards shy of setting the single-season passing yardage record at Tech. Kingsbury has 2,887 yards this season and needs nine to pass Robert Hill's current record of 2,894 yards set during the 1993 season.
Tech's 17 rushing yards was the lowest output of the season.
Break Out the Shades
For the first time this season, the Red Raiders will play a home game without the service of the Jones SBC Stadium lights. The game against Texas, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., was moved to 6 p.m. to accommodate a national television broadcast. The Oklahoma State game will kickoff at 1 p.m.
