LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's soccer coach Felix Oskam today announced the signing of two more student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to attend Texas Tech University in the fall of 2000. They are Rachel Mavris (Tulsa, Okla.) and Monica Miller (Albuquerque, N. M.). Tech's total signees, thus far, is seven after signing five student-athletes earlier this year: Tiana Boyea (Plano, Texas), Kerri Campbell (Duncanville, Texas), Tracy Loyd (Lubbock, Texas), Ali Jepson (Portland, Ore.) and Lindsey Scott (Dallas, Texas).
Mavris is a 5-4 forward/midfielder from Union High School where she was a varsity starter for four years. She was named All-District in 1997-99 and All-Conference in 1997. In 1999, she was named the Best Offensive Player on her team. In 1997, her team was ranked fourth nationally and state runner-up. She has been a member of the ODP state team for six years and participated in the Region III Camp in 1994 and 1996-98. She was a member of the Black Watch '81 club team from 1992-99 and is currently a member of the Thunder '81 club team. While playing for Black Watch, the team was a state runner-up and won several major tournaments.
Miller is a 5-10 midfielder from Eldorado High School who was an All-State selection in 1998 and 1999. Her team won the state championship in 1999. She was also named All-District, All-City and to the APS first-team All-Tournament team. Miller was also the 1999 District Player of the Year and the Playmaker of the Year. She is a member of the Rio FC club team. Her club team won the Tempe Thanksgiving Tournament in 1999 and Orange Classic this year.
"I am very excited to have these two players play for our soccer program," said Oskam. "All seven players we have signed so far are quality players, who could see a lot of playing time this fall. I tell you what, it sure is going to make our program much more competitive."
