LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Jamie Vannoy (Sandy, Ore.) leads Texas Tech with a third-place tie following the first two rounds of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. The Red Raiders are currently in fifth place overall with 18 holes to play Tuesday.
Strong winds and partly cloudy conditions prevented any team from shooting below 300 for a round. Nebraska leads the 13-team tournament with a two-round total of 624, followed by Oklahoma (637), Baylor (641), Colorado (642) and Tech (644). Colorado State (651) is in sixth place, followed by Lamar (653), Kansas (655), Wichita State (661), Denver (664), Kansas State (666), Oral Roberts (667) and Texas-El Paso (668).
Vannoy shot a 79 in the opening round, but rebounded with a 76 in the second. She is tied with Lamar's O. Maria Jonsdottir. Freshman Stephanie Dukes (N. Richland Hills, Texas) is tied at 22nd, while sophomore Jennifer Newhouse (Bryan, Texas) and freshman Melanie Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) are knotted in the 29th and 47th positions, respectively. Junior Priscillia Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) also is tied at 47th. Senior Heather Wrede (Lake Forest, Ill.), playing as an individual, is tied for 37th.
Baylor's Ali Brewer leads the tournament by two strokes over second place and six strokes over Vannoy.
