LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury (New Braunfels, Texas) was named the Southwestern Bell Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week today by a panel of media voters.
Kingsbury threw for 409 yards in Texas Tech's win over then-No. 24 Kansas State in Lubbock over the weekend. The passing yardage total ranks fifth all-time in school history and propels Kingsbury to the top of the charts in 400-yard passing games in Tech history with three. He completed 32-of-47 passes and threw four touchdowns for the second time in his career.
With his performance against K-State, Kingsbury also moved into a tie for first with Robert Hall on the 300-yard passing games list at Tech with his sixth, and passed Zebbie Lethridge on the career completions list with 547. He is one short of tying Hall in the completions category as well.
Kingsbury leads the Big 12 Conference in total offense and passing yards per game and ranks seventh in the nation in total offense.
Kingsbury and the Red Raiders face their third ranked opponent in four games this weekend when the team travels to Lincoln, Neb., to face the third-ranked Cornhuskers at 6 p.m. (CT) Saturday. The game will be televised on FOX Sports Net.
Red Raider defensive back Paul McClendon was named Southwestern Bell Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season.
