Street & Smith's Ranks Lady Raiders Preseason Third

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team has been ranked third by Street & Smith's in its preseason top 25 poll. It marks the highest ranking so far this preseason for the Lady Raiders. Tech was also ranked fourth by Women's Basketball Magazine, fifth by Lindy's, fifth by Women's Basketball News Service, seventh by SLAM Magazine, ninth by Athlon's, 10th by The Women's Basketball Journal and 12th by Basketball News.
Junior forward/center Plenette Pierson was one of 10 listed on the "high honorable mention" list for top players in the country, while sophomore Jia Perkins was listed on the "honorable mention" list.
Seven of Tech's 2001-02 opponents are ranked in the poll, including Big 12 foes Oklahoma, Colorado, Iowa State, Texas and Baylor.
The Lady Raiders will tip-off the season on Nov. 11 against Duke in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic in Durham, N.C. at noon CST on ESPN.
