Tereschenko Comes Up Short at Riviera All-American Championships

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - Red Raider Irina Tereschenko of the Texas Tech women's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2001 Riviera Women's All-American Championship today at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The 16th-seeded sophomore from Moscow, Russia, was selected earlier last week to compete in singles qualifying by ITA's Regional Chairs.
In round two of singles action Tereschenko battled 64th-ranked Darija Klaic of Washington, falling 6-4, 6-2, ending her bid to enter the singles qualifying field of 16. All qualifying players must win three matches in order to advance to the Oct. 11-14 Main Draw.
Tereschenko advanced to round two of singles play after defeating 43rd-ranked Mauren Haus of Wake Forest 7-6 (2), 6-4, in the round of 64 earlier today. The 5' 8" sophomore was one of only three Big 12 women's tennis players to have advanced to the round of 32.
The women's tennis team swings back into action Oct. 12-13 when it travels to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Houston Tournament.
