Roberson, Raiders Drop San Diego State 9-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Brandon Roberson tossed a career-high 14 strikeouts to lead the Red Raiders to a 9-1 win over host San Diego State on Saturday in the San Diego Baseball Classic at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Roberson (2-1) tossed his first complete game of the season and the first by a Tech pitcher this year. Roberson struckout 14 batters, gave up six hits, one run and held the Aztecs to just 32 at-bats.
Texas Tech (8-5) jumped out to 1-0 lead after Nick Blankenship hit an RBI single that scored Gera Alvarez who led off the game with a bloop double to left field. Tech added another run in the top of the second when Alvarez hit an RBI single that plated Chad Landry. The Red Raiders put the game way in the third inning by scoring three runs giving Tech a 5-0 lead.
Kerry Hodges led off the seventh inning with a solo home run over the 410 mark in centerfield to give the Red Raiders a 8-0 lead. Hodges collected two hits in the game to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Nick Blankenship also extended his season hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI single in the third inning. Both Hodges and Blankenship have tallied at least one hit in every game they have played in this season.
Hometown hero Gera Alvarez put forth another solid performance going 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.
Rob Harrand earned his first loss of the season for San Diego State as he gave up five earned runs in 2.0 innings of work.
Texas Tech will conclude play in the San Diego Baseball Classic on Sunday at noon when they face the San Diego Torreros at noon (PT). San Diego beat the Oklahoma Sooners 14-2 on Saturday and are currently 2-0 in the tournament.
