LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head soccer coach announced the hiring of Chris Cogan as an assistant coach for the 2001 season on Tuesday.
Cogan served as a volunteer assistant from 1995-97 at Tech under Oskam before working for an athletic supply company the past three years.
While at Tech Cogan designed and implemented fitness, skills and technique training, implemented team training sessions, assisted in recruiting and was responsible for warm-up and pre-game preparation for goalkeepers.
"Chris will be a great addition to my coaching staff because of our earlier work relationship when he was a volunteer coach here," Oskam said. "He will be a big asset to our program."
Cogan played collegiately at Houston Baptist University, starting his final two seasons at goalkeeper. He set a trio of records while at HBU, including most shutouts in a season, most shutouts in a row and lowest goals against average.
He also played for the Houston Express Semi-Professional soccer team in the early 1990's. During his tenure at Tech he played on the club team for the Red Raiders, teams that finished as the NIRSSA national championship runners-up twice and quarterfinalists once.
He has also played for the Lubbock Lazers Semi-Professional team. The Lazers were Mitre Indoor National Championship runners-up in 1998 and quarterfinalists in 1997, and the team was also a 2000 Lotto Indoor National Championship quarterfinalist.
