LUBBOCK, Texas - - As conditions deteriorated overnight, so too did the hopes of completing the final round of the Fourth Annual Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship on Tuesday at the 6,380-yard par 71 Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. Cold, driving rain and sustained winds in excess of 30 miles per hour forced the cancellation of the final round of the 54-hole event.
Wake Forest University's two-round total of 577 captured the title for the Demon Deacons. Augusta State University, last year's winner, finished six shots back at 583. Virginia Tech, Kansas and Virginia Commonwealth round out the top five. Texas Tech placed 13th in the 15-team field.
Rafael Vera, a sophomore from Coastal Carolina University, took home individual honors with 137 keyed by his second round 66. Oliver Wilson of Augusta State was three strokes back at two-under par (140) while Brian Krusoe of Virginia Tech and Jeff Crowe of VCU tied for third at one-under-par (141).
Mark Hull carded a second round 77 to finish tied for 38th with a 157. Trey Pyka was tied for 43rd (154) while Brad Jacobson was tied for 56th (158). Kyle Willmann finished the second round with a 81, grabbing 66th place with a total of 160. Brooks Kelly came in tied for 69th (161) in the 75-player field.
