Oklahoma Rallies To Beat Texas Tech 6-5

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring three runs to upset Texas Tech 6-5 in the second game of the three-game series in front of 1,057 fans at Dale Mitchell Park on Saturday. The 6-5 Sooner win snapped a nine-game Texas Tech win streak.
With the loss, Texas Tech fell to 31-15 overall and 14-9 in the league while Oklahoma improved to 16-27 and 10-13 in the Big 12. Texas Tech took the early lead on a lead-off home run by Austin Cranford to start the ball game. Tech put up two more runs in the top of the second when Kerry Hodges connected on a two-run homer over the left field wall to put the Red Raiders ahead 3-0. Oklahoma tallied five hits in the bottom of the third and scored three runs to tie the score.
Senior first baseman Chad Landry broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the fourth when he hit a two-run shot over right field to give him his first hit of the weekend. The next 3 _ innings turned out to be a pitcher's dual until Oklahoma put up three runs in the bottom of the eight to take the lead 6-5. The Sooners got RBI singles from Sergio Garcia, Sean Smith and Charlie Frasier.
Oklahoma reliever Mark Roberts (1-2) struckout four Texas Tech batters to pick up his first win of the season while Tech sensation Chris Phillips (10-3) suffered his third loss of the season after giving up all six runs on 10 hits.
Texas Tech and Oklahoma will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Dale Mitchell Park.
