Junior Kerry Hodges gave Tech the lead in the bottom of the seventh when he scored on a wild pitch by Kansas hurler Doug Lantz. The Jayhawks wasted no time getting back into the ballgame as Brent DelChiaro doubled to left field and eventually scored on an RBI groundout by Kevin Farmer.
Senior hurler Brandon Roberson (10-3) held the Jayhawks to just three hits over the course of the game to give the Red Raiders a chance in the bottom of the ninth. Lantz struckout Nick Blankenship and Bryon Smith in the first at-bats in the bottom of the ninth before Kerry Hodges was able to drop a single into left field to keep Tech alive in the inning. Tony Arnerich stepped up in the next at-bat and picked up his first hit of the game, a two-run homer over the left field wall to give Tech the win. The home run was Arnerich's fifth of the season and first since April 7.
Brandon Roberson picked up his 10th win of the year giving Texas Tech two pitchers with 10 wins in the same season for the first time since 1997. Roberson also tossed his fifth complete game of the season. Doug Lantz suffered the loss for Kansas and fell to 2-6 on the year.
