LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman women's tennis player Irina Tereschenko was named to the All-Big 12 team in singles on Friday after compiling a 12-5 mark this season.
The 5-8 true freshman from Moscow, Russia, began the season at the No. 3 singles position for head coach Virginia Brown, and won all five of her matches to start the year. Because of injury, Tereschenko moved to the No. 1 position and posted a 6-3 mark in the regular season.
She also teamed with Beverly Dawson to form a terrific doubles pairing this season, as the duo compiled a 14-3 mark in the regular season, including 6-3 in conference play.
Tereschenko moved into the ITA rankings in mid-March and reached her highest ranking of the season, 46th, at the end of March. She began play in this week's Big 12 Tournament in Waco, Texas, ranked 70th in the nation.
The Tech women's team ended their season Thursday with a first-round loss at the conference tourney in Waco, Texas, to Colorado. The squad's 9-11 final record more than doubled the win total from 2000 in Brown's second season at the helm of the program.
