LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp was recently named the president of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) at the Jostens and Berenson Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention in St. Louis, Mo., on April 1.
Sharp, who will serve as president for two years, had served as vice-president of the WBCA before taking over the reigns of president from the University of Illinois' Theresa Grentz.
Sharp has established herself as one of the most respected coaches in the country, while compiling a career record of 459-141 in 19 years. She has led the Lady Raiders to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 12 consecutive, and eight NCAA Sweet 16 and three Elite Eight appearances and the NCAA National Championship in 1993. While in the Southwest Conference, Sharp and the Lady Raiders never finished below third, they won or shared the last five championships, and they captured three Post-Season Classic titles.

Founded in 1981, the mission of the WBCA is to promote women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport of women's basketball and foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
