1. What does the future hold for Texas Tech tennis?
I
think the future is bright. This is our first year with our recruits on
board. Even with injuries, we still improved from last year's season. We
are being very patient in the recruiting game and hope to add two more solid
players to the roster for the 2001-2002 season.
2. This year was very tough for the squad due to
injury, how did everyone cope with the tough situation?
At
first, the team was really down and so were the coaches. Anytime you lose two of
your top four at the same time it is tough to rebound. It took a couple of
weeks, but the team finally pulled together and came up with some wins.
They played well as a team at the conference tournament and showed how much they care about the game and the university.
3. How does the community support the program?
We are
only in our second year as coaches and have a lot of support from the
community. The McLeod Tennis Center is almost complete and this is due to
the support of the community and Ethel and Don McLeod. There are many
others that are involved in supporting Men's and Women's tennis here at
Texas Tech. The media is starting to give more publicity to us as well.
4. You have been all over the world, how does Lubbock compare?
I like living in Lubbock. When you have traveled as much as I
have, it doesn't really matter where you live. The people here are very
friendly and the people I work with are great. If you need a change, you
can fly somewhere. We have a lot of things big cities can not offer such as the lack of traffic.
5. What is the most important thing that you want your players to
accomplished/learn from you while attending Texas Tech?
That the things you learn here both on and off the courts will help you be a
better person later in life. We try to project a positive image on our
players, though I know you can't always achieve that, we try. We try to
make them responsible for their actions and make them understand how
important their education is going to be to them. Being able to play tennis
is a means to an end. Know that your talent is providing you with your
education and that is a privledge not everyone has.
