Aggies Edge Out Tech 8-6

OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas A&M's Ty Garner went 3 for 3 to help lead the Aggies to an 8-6 upset win over No. 21 Texas Tech in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday night in Oklahoma City.
With the loss, Texas Tech (40-17-1) will face the Oklahoma Sooners at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon after the Sooners eliminated Texas 9-7 earlier in the afternoon.
Texas Tech took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third when Jason Rainey hit a three run home run over the right field wall to erase a 2-0 deficit. Tech added to its lead in the top of the fourth when first baseman Chad Landry hit an RBI single to right field plating Bryon Smith.
Texas A&M took over the game in the seventh as the Aggies scored four runs on five hits and one Red Raider error. Texas Tech got back in the game in the top of the eighth after scoring two runs to cut A&M's lead to 8-6. Chad Ertel came into pitch for Tech in the bottom of the eighth and held the Aggies scoreless but Tech was unable to rally in the top of the ninth giving A&M the win.
Chris Phillips suffered the loss for Texas Tech and is now 11-5 on the season. Steven Ponder earned the win for Texas A&M moving his record to 2-2 overall.
