Several Red Raiders Named to Preseason Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - Kevin Curtis and Lawrence Flugence head a list of Texas Tech football players who have garnered preseason honors from various national publications. The two players also are candidates for the top national award at their respective positions.
Eight Red Raiders have received recognition, including Kliff Kingsbury. The junior quarterback has been named an honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith's and is listed No. 22 among Lindy's 2001 College Football quarterbacks.
Curtis is a candidate for the Thorpe Award, an honor bestowed upon the nation's top defensive back. Past winners include Deion Sanders, Mark Carrier and Charles Woodson. Curtis also has been named to the Street & Smith's All-America second team and listed as one of the nation's top safeties by Lindy's.
Flugence is listed as a candidate for the prestigious Butkus Award, given annually to the top linebacker in college football. LaVar Arrington, Derrick Thomas and Brian Bosworth are among the past recipients. Flugence also has been named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-Big 12 Team and is listed as one of the nation's top linebackers by Lindy's. He joins Kingsbury as a Street & Smith honorable mention All-American.
Other Red Raiders receiving preseason recognition: Matt Heider (Lindy's Second-Team All-Big 12), Aaron Hunt (Street & Smith's All-Big 12 Team, Lindy's Second-Team All-Big 12), Ricky Williams (Lindy's Second-Team All-Big 12), Anton Paige (Lindy's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year) and Armon Dorrough (Athlon Sports Big 12 Future Stars).
