LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Greg McMackin is featured in the August 2001 issue of American Football Monthly. He is featured as one of the publication's hot coaches this season.
McMackin, in his second season at Texas Tech, led a Red Raider defense last season that recorded three shutouts and held two other opponents without an offensive score. The Tech defense ranked sixth in the nation last season in pass defense, 10th in pass efficiency defense and was among the top 25 in total defense. The 2000 squad also set a school record with 96 tackles for loss and led the Big 12 Conference in fumble recoveries.
Individually, four Red Raiders ranked among the top 10 in the Big 12 in tackles, including league-leading Lawrence Flugence. The Seattle Seahawks drafted defensive tackle Kris Kocurek in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
In addition to McMackin, the publication also listed linebacker coach Ruffin McNeill as one of the nation's top minority coaches. McNeill was instrumental in the development of Flugence as one of the nation's leading linebackers.
