LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's rookie class completed its second day of workouts Tuesday afternoon. Both sessions were held on the artificial turf of Jones SBC Stadium.
Tuesday's practices were the last for the newcomers as a group. After taking Wednesday as an orientation day, Tech will work out as a full squad for the first time in preparation for the 2001 season. The Red Raiders' 79 varsity members reported to camp this afternoon.
Head Coach Mike Leach ran the newcomers through two sessions in helmets and shoulder pads for the second-straight day. After a crash course in learning the system on Monday, the Red Raiders spent much of the day reviewing the schemes.
"We did a pretty good job of reviewing this afternoon," Leach said. "The rain this morning caused the ball to slip a little, making everything take a while to soak in. Overall, we have had a solid two days."
With tomorrow reserved for team orientation, the newcomers are looking forward to taking the day and getting some rest.
"I'm looking forward to sleeping late," freshman quarterback Cody Hodges said. "Tomorrow will give us a chance to get our legs back and give me a chance to rest my arm.
"I thought it went well today. We looked the best during the review session," Hodges added, referring to the afternoon workout. "I'm looking forward to working out with the varsity. There is a lot we can learn from them."
The Red Raiders resume workouts with the first full squad practice Thur., Aug. 16, at 4 p.m.
