LUBBOCK, Texas - Emotions ran high during Thursday afternoon's practice on the grass fields outside of Jones SBC Stadium as the Red Raiders began showing signs that they will be fired up and ready for their September 8th opener against New Mexico in Lubbock.
"We had a good spirited practice today," Head Coach Mike Leach said. "Practice went well from the beginning. Each step of the way, we had a good tempo."
During team drills on the back end of practice, tempers flared, but the Red Raiders remained in control. "Anytime you have an aggressive and competitive workout, you're going to fight a little," Leach added.
Highlighting the workout was a pair of passes and receptions. B.J. Symons hit a streaking J.R. Holder on a 45-yard touchdown strike as Holder split two defenders for the score. Mickey Peters hauled in a bullet from Symons with one hand while tiptoeing the sideline.
The New Mexico game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Jones SBC Stadium in a little over two weeks. For ticket information to Texas Tech home football games, contact the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG-12 or log-on and order on-line at www.texastech.com.
