LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders returned to the practice field on Tuesday after taking Monday off as the team did not practice due to the first day of classes at Texas Tech.
In their first non-training camp practice of the Fall and first closed practice of the season, the Red Raiders hit the grass fields East of Jones SBC Stadium to do some tune-ups on both sides of the ball. The offense shined in today's practice as a number of receivers made outstanding plays, including a long touchdown reception by sophomore Wes Welker.
"We had a pretty good practice today," said head coach Mike Leach. "We need to get a better tempo in drills especially when we are not going live or against our first-team defense. Overall, we were better today and it was a more productive practice. Wes Welker and Ricky Williams both had good days while Cody Fuller had the best day amongst our newcomers."
The Red Raiders return to practice on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. workout. Practices are no longer open to the public unless attendance has been arranged through head coach Mike Leach the morning of practice.
The New Mexico game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Jones SBC Stadium in less than two weeks. For ticket information to Texas Tech home football games, contact the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG-12 or log-on and order on-line at www.texastech.com.
