Women's Basketball News Service Ranks Lady Raiders Preseason Fifth

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team received its first preseason ranking of the 2001-02 season by being ranked fifth by the Women's Basketball News Service, which was announced today.
The Lady Raiders are one of three Big 12 teams ranked in the top 10 and one of six teams in the top 25. Eight of Tech's opponents this season are ranked in the top 25, including four schools in the top 10. The WBNS's top five include Connecticut, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
Sophomore Jia Perkins was named to the preseason All-America second-team, while junior Plenette Pierson was an honorable mention selection.
