EDMOND, Okla. - The Texas Tech women's soccer team came up on the short end of a 5-4-overtime match with Oral Roberts Friday night in the first game of the Oklahoma Shootout in Edmond, Okla.
The Red Raiders (2-4) battled back from a two-goal deficit late in the second half to force the extra frame. Sophomore Catie Arsenault recorded her first goal of the season, on an assist from senior forward Carrie Graham, in the 89th minute of play to knot up the score at 4.
Tech was unable to use the momentum it had gained at the end of regulation as ORU (2-3) forward Megan Utz scored in the third minute of overtime, on an assist from Erin Hartog, giving the Golden Eagles their second win of the season.
The Red Raider offense amassed four goals for the second consecutive match with senior Melanie Brosnahan accounting for two of the Tech scores, while freshman Michaela Roberts scored her second goal of the season.
ORU was led in scoring by Hartog, who accounted for two goals and an assist, and Tessa Long who also recorded a pair of goals.
Brosnahan opened the scoring in the 21st minute of play with an unassisted goal, her third goal of the year, only to have the Golden Eagles answer eight minutes later on the first of Hartog's goals, with an assist by Martha Owens. ORU took a 2-1 lead eight minutes later on the first of two goals by Long. Roberts' goal late in the first half tied up the game at 2 heading into the intermission.
In the second half, ORU's tandem of Long and Hartog put the Golden Eagles back up by two, when Brosnahan scored her second goal of the day, kick starting the Tech comeback.
