LUBBOCK, Texas - A smoke-free policy has been instituted for Jones SBC Stadium, beginning with the New Mexico game this weekend. There will be designated areas for smoking outside of the four gates of the stadium.
Tech officials made the decision due to a lack of ventilation on the concourse configuration on each side of the stadium.
"Due to a lack of ventilation in the concourse areas, we felt that it was appropriate to make it a non-smoking area," Texas Tech Director of Athletic Gerald Myers said. "However, we have designated areas and made it possible for fans who wish to smoke to be allowed to exit the stadium through one of the four gates and re-enter."
A hand stamp will be required for re-entry to the stadium.
Also, access to seats in the mezzanine level has changed. Season ticket holders holding tickets in the 100 level sections or the box seats will be getting to their seats via staircases this season. All ramps under the stadium have been replaced with staircases on the concourse level. Entrance to the mezzanine section is under the west side stands. Upon completion of the renovations, access to the mezzanine level will be made possible with elevators.
