LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball office and the Tech Hecklers announced today that over 14 personally autographed items by some of baseball's most storied figures will be available in a silent auction at Friday's First-Pitch Luncheon at the Frazier Alumni Pavillion.
The silent auction will feature autographed items from such baseball sensations as Johnny Bench, Tony LaRussa, Mark McGwire, Nolan Ryan, Jim Palmer, Bob Gibson, Rod Carew and Stan Musial.
"We are so thankful for these items and if it weren't for the efforts of Bob Knight, none of this would be possible," said Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays. "Once again Coach Knight has gone to bat for Texas Tech and he has really come up big for our baseball program."
The First-Pitch Luncheon will begin at 11:45 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion with the silent auction starting at that time. Bids will be taken and the items awarded at a later date.
The luncheon is the official kick-off to the start of the 2002 baseball and softball seasons and is being sponsored by the Tech Hecklers. Only a few remaining seats are available for the luncheon and can be purchased by calling Monica Jarrett at the Texas Tech baseball office at 742-3355.
