SETTING THE SCENE
- The Red Raiders and Cyclones meet for the fifth time in the series Sat., Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.
- The game is the second Big 12 game of the season for the Red Raiders, while Iowa State is playing its third.
- Texas Tech holds a 4-0 advantage in the series, including the last two games in Big 12 action. The Red Raiders are 3-0 in Lubbock and 1-0 in Ames. The two teams met in Ames in 1998 with the Red Raiders taking a 31-24 win. Tech also won the last game 28-16 in Lubbock in 1999. The first game of the series was played in 1967 and the second in 1974.
- Texas Tech is coming off of an emotional 48-47 overtime win at Texas A&M last weekend. Tech entered the fourth quarter down 18 points and erased the deficit with a 24-point output during the period. Following an A&M touchdown and missed extra point in overtime, the Red Raiders scored on a five-yard pass play and nailed the extra point and the win.
- Iowa State had last week off following its first win over Nebraska since 1992 a week earlier. The Cyclones are 5-1 on the season and ranked 11th and 14th in this week's Associated Press and ESPN Coaches polls.
THE RECORDS
Texas Tech - Texas Tech is 4-2 and 1-0 in Big 12 play following last weekend's 48-47 overtime win at Texas A&M. The Red Raiders opened the season with a loss at Ohio State and has won four of the last five, including wins over SMU, Mississippi and New Mexico.
Iowa State - The Cyclones are 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in Big 12 action with wins over Kansas and Nebraska. ISU has won five straight since losing to Florida State.
TEXAS TECH HEAD COACH MIKE LEACH
Third-year head coach Mike Leach has a career-mark of 18-13, including this season's 4-2 record. Leach is 11-5 in two seasons on the turf of Jones SBC Stadium. During his first two seasons, Leach became the only coach in school history to guide his first two teams to postseason bowl berths and ranks second among Tech football coaches with 14 wins in his first two seasons.
IOWA STATE HEAD COACH DAN McCARNEY
Dan McCarney is in his eighth season at Iowa State and has a career head coaching record of 34-51, including this season's 5-1 mark. McCarney is 0-2 against Texas Tech.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
The Texas Tech offense has been red hot as of late as the Red Raiders have scored 187 points over the last four games. Since scoring a combined 45 points against Ohio State and SMU, the Red Raiders have been blistering opposing defenses.

The Red Raider offense has been clicking on all cylinders lately. RED RAIDERS DOMINATING IN FOURTH QUARTER
Better late than never. The Red Raiders have been outstanding this season in the fourth quarter, scoring 101 points in the frame - 42 points more than the next highest quarter (59 in the second)! The Red Raiders erased deficits of 28 against N.C. State and 18 against Texas A&M in the fourth quarter.
