LUBBOCK, Texas - ABC has decided to utilize its final six-day selection for the 2002 season, according to the Big 12 Conference. The Red Raiders and Longhorns could meet in any of the three Big 12 television timeslots.
One of the three games ABC has selected will fill its 2:30 p.m. (CT) timeslot on Sat., Nov. 16. FOX Sports Net will select from the remaining two games for telecast in the syndication (11:30 a.m.) and evening (6 p.m.) windows. In addition to Texas at Texas Tech, the other two games are Iowa State at Colorado and Nebraska at Kansas State.
The Iowa State-Colorado game can only be televised at 2:30 p.m. or 6 p.m., while the other two games could fall into any of the three timeslots. FOX Sports Net utilized its one and only 11:30 a.m. local telecast at Colorado when the Red Raiders visited two weeks ago, therefore eliminating CU from the morning slot.
The game will be the seventh televised game of the season for the Red Raiders, the most appearances for Tech since seven showings in 2000 and 10 appearances in 1996. The game also will mark the 129th all-time appearance since first playing on TV against Auburn in the 1954 Gator Bowl. The last 12 games against the Longhorns have been televised.
The Red Raiders enter this weekend's game against Oklahoma State looking for its seventh win of the season and bowl eligibility for the 10th straight season. Kickoff for the Tech-OSU game is 1 p.m. at Jones SBC Stadium in Lubbock.
