PHOENIX, Ariz. - Looking for an offensive spark Tech coach Bobby Reeves let Jana Baker pinch hit for Tracy Cartier to lead off the sixth inning, she singled. Cartier re-entered the game as a runner and advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on an illegal pitch. On strike three to Rebecca Eimen Fresno State tried to pick Cartier off of third and as the ball rolled away from the Bulldog third baseman Cartier raced home for the lone Red Raider run of the morning as Tech dropped its final game of the Fiesta Bowl Classic, 7-1, to #16 Fresno State.
FSU (3-2) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as it got a two-out two-run homer in the home half of the first inning. The score would remain unchanged until the fourth when the Bulldogs would tack on three more two-out runs. With Tech trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth FSU scored two more unearned runs giving them the 7-1 win.
Tech (3-7) struck out 12 times, was only able to muster three hits throughout the contest and was never able to threaten the Bulldog lead.
The Red Raiders finished the Fiesta Bowl Classic 0-5 and will look to regroup as they are off until next weekend when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to play in the UNLV Tournament.
