Tech Finishes Competition in Conference Indoor Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. - Competition ended today at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb. with the Tech women's team placing eighth and the men finishing 10th.
All total, the tracksters finished scoring in 14 events on the final day of competition.
The men were led by freshman Jonathan Johnson who turned in a pair of second place finishes. Johnson ran the 600 in a time of one minute 8.81 seconds and posted an 800 time of 1:52.83 in earning the Tech men's team 16 points.
Other standout performances from the men's team were posted by Julieon Raeburn and Ivory McCann in the 200. Raeburn ran a 21.21 in finishing 3rd just .01 seconds ahead of McCann, both times were NCAA provisional qualifying times. The men's 4x4 relay team turned in a time of 3:10.17 as it provisionally qualified for the NCAAs and placed fourth, while in the high jump Mike Beasley cleared 2.08 meters, placing eighth.
The women's team had several top eight finishes including a trio of second place marks. In the 800-Meter run Shannon Spaulding continued to have a successful season placing second with a time of 2:07.92 and anchoring the Distance Medley Relay team to a come-from-behind first place finish of 11:34.15. The 4x4 relay team sprinted to a second place finish of 3:37.16, both relay times were provisional qualifying times.
In the 400 Tech had two top-six finishes, a second place time of 53.89 turned in by Rachelle Evans and a sixth place finish by La Donna Begelton, 55.68. Evans' time was good enough for a NCAA provisional qualifying time. Tiffany Green continued to run good as she turned in a fourth place time of 7.49 in the 60-Meter Dash while Megan Schuessler recorded a distance of 13.99 in the shot put for seventh place. Ashley Mitchell and Monique Wright-Cruse turned in 5th and 6th place finishes in the 200 respectively.
Tech will host its final indoor meet of the season next weekend at the Texas Tech Last Chance Meet, where athletes will get a final chance to improve their standing or make their way on to the NCAA's performance list before the National Meet the first weekend in March.
