Robles Named Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech shortstop Kristi Robles led the Red Raiders to the Troy Cox Classic title by hitting .435 with nine runs batted in, in six games played and is the Big 12 Player of the Week. Nebraska pitcher Peaches James was the most outstanding player at the NFCA Leadoff Classic last week. The sophomore gave up no runs in 24 2/3 innings work and is the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.
Robles led Tech to the Troy Cox Classic title over the weekend and a 5-2 record for the week. Her best game of the week came against #17 Florida State as she was 2-for-3 with two doubles (sixth and seventh of the season), a walk, scored the tying run, and drove in the game-winning run on a two-RBI double in the top of the eighth. During the week she recorded three-multi hit games giving her five on the season and was 4-for-6 in two games against #17 FSU with three RBIs and a run scored. By recording at least one hit in each game of the week, she extends her current hitting streak to 10 games. Because of her performance last week she is now leading or tied for the team lead in several offensive categories including: runs (15), doubles (8), triples (1), BA (.317), RBIs (17), walks (11) and is second on the team in hits with 20.
James had the best weekend of her career against the toughest competition NU has faced all season. The sophomore did not allow a run and gave up just six hits in 24.2 innings against No. 5 LSU, No. 2 Stanford, Texas A&M, and No. 18 Alabama to lead the Huskers to their first-ever NFCA Classic title. The four teams hit just .072 against James. The Papillion, Neb., righthander opened the weekend with back-to-back one-hit shutouts in a 1-0 win over the Tigers and a 2-0 victory against the Cardinal. She gave up just four hits against the Aggies in the Gold Championship Bracket semifinal. James was also in the lineup offensively against A&M and slugged a two-run homer, her second of the season. James concluded the weekend by securing the NFCA title for NU. The Huskers led Alabama 3-2 after 3.1 innings. James the entered the game and rendered the Crimson Tide hitless, striking out seven of the 11 batters she faced.
