LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach announced the signing of 24 student-athletes to national letters of intent today.
"We are very excited about this group of players," Leach said. "This is a good, solid class for us. We addressed some immediate needs with a couple junior college players and we have added depth to our roster. We are particularly excited about our freshman class. We anticipate several of them to come in and make an immediate impact."
Among the players signed by Leach, 19 are from the state of Texas and one hails from just across the border in Shreveport, La. Additionally, Leach signed his second player in two years from the Congo via Belgium via Hartnell (Calif.) College. Other states represented include Florida, California and Arizona.
"The state of Texas has been the key recruiting area for us in my two years here," Leach said of the 19 Texans in the class. "We've also been able to reach into the junior colleges and sign some outstanding athletes. The coaches and staff associated with our program deserve the credit for putting this class together."
Signees Thomas Bachman (Shreveport, La.) and Johnnie Mack (Lakeland, Fla.) enrolled at Tech in January and have begun participating in conditioning drills with the team.
