2002 Season Begins for Women's Tennis

Senior Alenka Ovin will lead the Red Raiders against UTA on Saturday.

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team begins its 2002 season on Saturday, Feb. 9, against Texas-Arlington. The match will begin at 11 a.m. at the Nautilus.

The Red Raiders look to start strong led by senior captains Alenka Ovin (Maribor, Slovania) and Noel Ruiz (Asuncion, Paraguay) and sophomore Irina Tereschenko (Moscow, Russia), last year's Southwest Region Rookie of the Year and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

After the fall competition, Tereshenko was ranked 64th in the region in singles play, while the doubles tandem of Tereshenko and Beverly Dawson (Odessa, Texas) was ranked 17th.

After UTA, the Red Raiders will host the Texas Tech Tennis Tournament Feb. 15-16.
