Women's Tennis Opens Season With A Win

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team defeated Texas Arlington today at the Nautilus. The Red Raider got off to a good start this morning by winning two of the three doubles matches.
The doubles tandem of Irina Tereschenko (Moscow, Russia) and Beverly Dawson (Odessa, Texas) defeated Texas Arlington's Marketa Cizova and Katherine Warren, 9-7. The duo of Kendall Brooks (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Alenka Ovin (Maribor, Slovenia) also put up a win for the Raiders.
In singles play, Tech received wins from Tereschenko, Ovin, Barbara Schraml (Linz, Austria) and Noel Ruiz (Asuncion, Paraguay). Ovin's win came after three long sets with UTA's Carolin Schappacher, 2-6, 6-4,6-3.
"I am really proud of how the girls played today," Tech Head Coach Virginia Brown said. "This is a great start for us to win against a tough team like UTA."
Up next, the Red Raiders will host the Texas Tech Tennis Tournament Feb. 15-16.
